History
Dating from the 18th century, this friendly Grade II listed village pub has many original features including slate floors, sash windows, a large fireplace and settles in the bar.
The pub consists of a lounge/dining room, public bar and a small snug (known as the farmers room).
Named after the nearby Cambrian railway line which closed in the 1950's you’ll catch locals and tourists alike, enjoying a pint, warming their toes, whilst putting the world to rights. Not to mention the sporting banter whenever the rugby’s on TV.
The Tanat Valley Light railway is long gone but the pub remains as a memorial. The community of Penybontfawr (formerly known as Bont Fawr) is almost entirely 19th century in origin and grew here because of the road links to Bala, Shrewsbury and Oswestry.
